Mr Hamid Khan started to build a concrete house for himself and his wife at Bamboo Village Valsayn. He had some medical complications  which quickly consumed his savings and prevented him from completing the structure.

The Rotary Club of St Augustine was called in to assist. The request came in via PP Basha and the club approved $15,000 for the project. Director of Community Services Rtn Balraj and PP Dietrich were the main drivers of this project.

Mr Khan was able to build a small three-room concrete structure complete with doors, windows and a metal roof. Remaining was a bathroom and kitchen countertops.

For the bathroom he had already obtained the toilet and sink. With the funds that were approved we were able  to build a septic tank, the walls to enclose the bathroom and raise the floor to the same level as the rest of the building.

We are still short of what we expected to provide for Mr Khan so we will need to explore some other options for completing the plumbing works and the kitchen counter.

Mr Khan was so grateful for the assistance of our club that he gave us two ducks from his duck farm. Stay tuned for details on when we will have our curry duck lime!
