Anthony Young Sing and Curtis Lee Poy emerged winners of the 5th Annual Rotary Club of St Augustine Golf for Life Tournament held on Saturday 10th October at Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club in Trincity.

Young Sing and Lee Poy, representing Massy Technologies, won with a tally of 46 Stableford points followed by the team of Rabindra Narine and Ahamad Ali (Second Crossing Hardware) two points back on 44. 

 In 3rd position was the team of 10-year-old Chris Richards Jr. and Wayne Baptiste (Royal Castle) who also had 44 points but lost out on a count back. 

Rounding out the top five were Subash Ragbir and George Bleasdell (JS Steel Construction) with 43 points and Richard Lara and Randy Dhalloo (Jadoo’s Trading) with 42. 

There were 10 pairs of prizes given out with the champions receiving attractive trophies, TT$5,000.00 in units from Unit Trust Corporation as well as hampers from Angostura.

No one was able to win the hole in one prize of a BMW 1 Series sponsored by 21st Century Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers Ltd or the US$250,000.00 prize for a hole in one from 180 yards on the 9th hole but Mohammed Haniff won bragging rights and a hamper for being the closest to the pin in the shootout.

The tournament was held to raise funds to support the work of Heartbeat International of Trinidad & Tobago in their efforts to supply pacemakers and defibrillators to needy patients throughout Trinidad and Tobago and a total of 42 teams participated this year.

At the prize-giving ceremony, Past President of the Rotary Club of St Augustine, Krishna Boodhai, chairman of the organizing committee, thanked the committee for their efforts in making the event another huge success.

He also indicated that some of the proceeds of the event would go toward developing the game of golf in the country through the continued sponsorship of two young promising golfers in the persons of Sarah Ramphal and Dinesh Jackree who received assistance last year and will continue to receive professional training for another year.

 

Gary Williams, President of the Rotary Club of St Augustine, presented the challenge trophy to the champions and congratulated all the other winners. 

He also expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors, participants and guests who were also asked to reserve October 1st for next year’s event.
