(1) receive and stock in TT, cardiac pace-making devices (Pacemakers Defibrillators, and related accessories) from Manufacturers worldwide;

Anthony Young Sing and Curtis Lee Poy emerged winners of the 5th Annual Rotary Club of St Augustine Golf for Life Tournament held on Saturday 10th October at Millennium Lakes Golf & Country Club in Trincity.

Young Sing and Lee Poy, representing Massy Technologies, won with a tally of 46 Stableford points followed by the team of Rabindra Narine and Ahamad Ali (Second Crossing Hardware) two points back on 44.

 In 3rd position was the team of 10-year-old Chris Richards Jr. and Wayne Baptiste (Royal Castle) who also had 44 points but lost out on a count back.

Rounding out the top five were Subash Ragbir and George Bleasdell (JS Steel Construction) with 43 points and Richard Lara and Randy Dhalloo (Jadoo’s Trading) with 42.

There were 10 pairs of prizes given out with the champions receiving attractive trophies, TT$5,000.00 in units from Unit Trust Corporation as well as hampers from Angostura.

No one was able to win the hole in one prize of a BMW 1 Series sponsored by 21st Century Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers Ltd or the US$250,000.00 prize for a hole in one from 180 yards on the 9th hole but Mohammed Haniff won bragging rights and a hamper for being the closest to the pin in the shootout.

The tournament was held to raise funds to support the work of Heartbeat International of Trinidad & Tobago in their efforts to supply pacemakers and defibrillators to needy patients throughout Trinidad and Tobago and a total of 42 teams participated this year.

At the prize-giving ceremony, Past President of the Rotary Club of St Augustine, Krishna Boodhai, chairman of the organizing committee, thanked the committee for their efforts in making the event another huge success.

He also indicated that some of the proceeds of the event would go toward developing the game of golf in the country through the continued sponsorship of two young promising golfers in the persons of Sarah Ramphal and Dinesh Jackree who received assistance last year and will continue to receive professional training for another year.

Gary Williams, President of the Rotary Club of St Augustine, presented the challenge trophy to the champions and congratulated all the other winners.

He also expressed his gratitude to all the sponsors, participants and guests who were also asked to reserve October 1st for next year’s event.

The Rotary Club of St Augustine recently held the official launch for the 5th Annual Golf for Life Tournament  at the Caribbean Eye Institute in Valsayn.
   The event also included presentations by the main beneficiary for the event, Heartbeat International of Trinidad & Tobago (HBITT) and two (2) recipients of pacemakers, Christine Bocus and  Mei-Gui Cen.
     Mei-Gui Cen had open-heart surgery at Stony Brook Hospital in the US when she was only 4 years old and received her 1st pacemaker in 1994.  She is currently 24 years old and lives in Tunapuna.  Since then, she is now on her third pacemaker, which was implanted by HBITT on 18th October  2010 by Dr Sateesh Ramphall. Mei-Gui received her undergraduate degree in Physics from The University of the West Indies (The UWI) and has recently started her Masters in Project Management at The UWI.  In her spare time Mei-Gui is an avid hiker, trekking across numerous nature trails in Trinidad and Tobago.
      Christine Bocus was diagnosed with a third heart blockage at the age of 14 and she received her first pacemaker in 2006. After five (5) years the battery life came to an end and she received her second pacemaker in 2011.  Christine is also 24 years old and lives in Waterloo. She recently completed her undergraduate degree in Accounting and is currently working at RBC Royal Bank.
      Since its inception in 2011, the Rotary Club of St Augustine’s Golf for Life has raised over $450,000.00 for HBITT.  The 5th Annual Tournament takes place on 10th October at Millennium Golf and Country Club.
